Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born at Winona Minnesota. The name was given to her by her parents for the town where she grew as a child. Michel Horowitz' father was an editor and writer, as were Cynthia Palmer and her mother. Ryder's father is from an ethnically Jewish family Ryder thinks she's Jewish. The actress is the younger sister of Uria, and has half-siblings Jubal & Sunyata. Ryder relocated together with her family to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. The family was in a house that didn't have electric power. Ryder was a voracious bookworm and would spend her days reading books because she had no television. Ryder began to take acting classes in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983, when she was 12. When she was fifteen, she landed her very first role onscreen, playing Lucas. Ryder endured bullying while in high school. She thought that by becoming an actor, her behavior could be reduced. It didn't turn out. She continued to pursue her goals. Ryder made her breakthrough in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in the year 1988. Ryder was able to continue playing parts that proved successful in a variety of films. In 1993 she received two nominations in the Academy Awards. One of the nominations was for her part in The Age of Innocence.
